From Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture to Hakodate.
A new challenge and a dream city
living.

He used his experience in manufacturing to join Hakodate Dock.

HS worked in the manufacturing industry in her hometown of Kanazawa. She felt that "manufacturing" suited her better than clerical work, and so she decided to take the plunge and change jobs to Hakodate Docks, where she is currently working in the Ship Repair Department and Weapons Division.

Q: What led you to join Hakodate Dock?
A: I don't really like office work, so I worked in the manufacturing industry in my hometown. I wanted to work in the manufacturing industry in Hakodate as well, and while I was looking for a job that would allow women to thrive, I found Hakodate Dock and applied.

Q: What was your impression of Hakodate and the shipbuilding industry before joining the company?
A: I had the impression that Hakodate was a wonderful city, but I thought the shipbuilding industry was a world far removed from me.

It's a proud job that supports the "defense technology" of escort ships behind the scenes.

HS is currently involved in management work related to the maintenance of defense equipment on destroyers.

Q: Please tell us about your current job..
A: Planning and estimating maintenance work schedules for the gun turrets and missile launchers equipped on destroyers, checking the status, and adjusting the process.

Q: When do you feel a sense of accomplishment or satisfaction in your work?
A: Being able to be involved in a unique world that we rarely encounter in our daily lives. It can be difficult, but everything is fresh and fun every day.

Q: How do you feel about the atmosphere and work environment at your workplace??
A: Everyone is kind, and it's a very comfortable place for women to work. When planning the renewal of work uniforms, the opinions of female employees were taken into account, and I felt that the company really listened to what we had to say.

I am currently living in a place I had always wanted to live in.

I am now living in a place I had always wanted to live in.

Q: Why did you decide to move to Hakodate?
A: Ever since I visited Hakodate on a junior high school brass band trip, I thought it was a wonderful city and I wanted to live there someday.

This time, I had a chance encounter and I thought, "Okay, let's go," and decided to move there (laughs).

The blue of the sky, the sparkle of the night view, and the aroma of sake.

Living in Hakodate makes everyday life feel a little special.

Q: What do you like about living in Hakodate?
A: The climate is good, and the summers are short and cool, so it's very comfortable. The air is clean, so there are lots of blue skies and the night view is beautiful. I recommend the night view the moment you get off the highway!

Q: How do you spend your days off and what are your favorite spots?
A: I enjoy visiting cafes and izakayas. I actually quite like sake. I also go for drives to take photos. The azaleas in Esan that I visited in the spring were particularly beautiful.

The struggle with the "slippery road surface" is still ongoing (laughs).

Even though I grew up in the Hokuriku region, I was surprised by the winter road conditions in Hakodate. What's great about HS is that no matter how many times he falls, he always gets up with a smile on his face!

Q: What were your fears or difficulties when you moved here?
A: The roads were slippery in the winter, and I fell at least once a week (laughs).

Q: How did you overcome that?
A: I haven't gotten over it yet, but next winter I'd like to limit my falls to once a month (laughs).

Take the plunge and jump in. Hakodate is the best!

Q: Please give a message to those who are interested in Hakodate Dock or moving to Hakodate.

A: The scenery is amazing and the food is incredibly delicious, so I recommend living in Hakodate! Also, the snow quality is excellent, so you can enjoy snowboarding to your heart's content at the nearby ski resorts. Also, at Hakodate Dock, even if you're changing jobs from a completely different profession like me, everyone there will provide you with full support, so you can rest assured. Don't be afraid to jump in. Come to Hakodate!!
