Interview
HULL CONSTRUCTION SECTION MEMBER
Mr. T.K.
I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I see blocks being put together from nothing to a large ship.
TK-san
Hull Section Outside Business Staff
1. Please tell us about your current job and responsibilities.
When installing a hull block, I am in charge of ``positioning,'' cutting and joining parts to make fine adjustments to match the size of the ship.
2. What do you find most rewarding about your work?
I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I see blocks being put together from nothing to a large ship.
Also, being recognized for my work skills and being entrusted with a job is also motivating.
3.What kind of experience or learning did you have at this company? Also, is there anything you would like to improve your skills in the future?
I lost weight because my job requires physical movement (lol)
While I was working on gas pipe cutting, I noticed that my senior's cutting surfaces were precise and smooth and he carried out the task without any interruptions. This made me realize the significance of maintaining the correct posture while cutting in order to avoid hand fatigue and shakiness. I am keen to continue learning these techniques to improve my skills further.
4. Do you have any advice for juniors joining the company in terms of preparation before joining the company?
As long as you can greet them cheerfully, you'll be fine. Is it cute to be a little cheeky? (lol)
5.What do you do on your days off?
I enjoy fishing during my days off, particularly for yellowtail and flounder.
MACHINERY DESIGN SECTION CHIEF
Mr. A.S.
It's exciting to see something we design on a flat surface come together in real life, and it's rewarding to see customers and on-site crews happy when the drawings we draw are easy to see.
Mr. A.S.
MACHINERY DESIGN SECTION CHIEF
1. Please tell us about your current job and responsibilities.
I am designing a ship's engine room. As a section chief, I review staff drawings and prepare materials for business negotiations with clients (ship owners).
2. What do you find most rewarding about your work?
It's exciting to see something we design on a flat surface come together in real life, and it's rewarding to see customers and on-site crews happy when the drawings we draw are easy to see.
3. What kind of experience or learning did you have at this company? Also, is there anything you would like to improve your skills in the future?
After receiving advice from my seniors, I was able to create a drawing and visualize how it would be attached to the ship.
It may not be about improving your skills, but carbon neutrality has been emphasized in recent years, and future engines will also be compatible with such things, so I want to be sensitive to the latest knowledge.
4. Do you have any advice for juniors joining the company in terms of preparation before joining the company?
The first thing to do is to be able to greet people well. Unlike studying at school, you ask lots of questions and learn how to do things and gain knowledge, and I think it's important to say "thank you" to your seniors in order to build good relationships.
5. What do you do on your days off?
I have a daughter who is now 2 years old. So cute!
I spend my days off walking around Goryokaku Park with my daughter and two dogs. When I was single, I never took a walk in the park, but now, I am surrounded by machinery and iron at work, and I spend with my daughter relaxing in nature during my weekends (lol).
HULL REPAIR DIVISION STAFF
Mr. M.I.
I believe that by looking at a single item or task from various perspectives, you will not only be able to communicate and work better, but also learn a lot more and enjoy my work.
Mr. M.I.
HULL REPAIR DIVISION STAFF
1. Please tell us about your current job and responsibilities.
As the person in charge of hull construction for a repaired ship, I listen to crews' and ship owners' construction requests, manage construction details and schedules, supervise on-site workers, and arrange necessary supplies.
2. What do you find most rewarding about your work?
When I handed over the ship I was responsible for to the shipowner, they expressed gratitude and asked if I could take over again.
3. What kind of experience or learning did you have at this company? Also, is there anything you would like to improve your skills in the future?
I studied about ships in university, but I discovered there were many aspects of the field that I was unaware of. Through my experiences, I learned the importance of being able to learn and adapt quickly, especially when working on something with which I have limited prior knowledge.
I would like to obtain more qualifications that I can utilize and proceed with my work smoothly.
4. Do you have any advice for juniors joining the company in terms of preparation before joining the company?
I believe that by looking at a single item or task from various perspectives, you will not only be able to communicate and work better, but also learn a lot more and enjoy my work.
5. What do you do on your days off?
I either play games or watch videos at home, or I often drive around on my motercycle or car. I recently bought a new motercylce, so I'm looking forward to spring.
